The year bids good-bye and the new one has begun to unfold. Another year to make choices. Another year to make mistakes. Another year to grow and learn. Another year to make the most of.
Upon deep contemplation over the year, it became clear that my vision board for 2017 will be about Focus. A lot of things happened over the course of the year, truly enriching my life and person in so many levels. I stretched, bounded, and leaped, all which I believed led me to deciding that it’s now about going back to my center and from there, determine the next steps. We can be distracted by many things and lose sight of what is really important. It is vital that we do not let that happen.

The Year in Retrospect continues, the conclusion.
Be more active in social media:
Some of my friends jokingly call me a #cavewoman for not being present in social media most of the time. Plans are made on our social groups and I am out of the loop, not really minding it, until somebody tells me about it and checking if I can make it. I also miss out on a lot of tagged posts and approve friend requests usually a month or two later. I know it’s a very digital world and I do not disregard that it has its perks, from easier communication to faster access to a lot of things, but I still enjoy living in the real world and talking to people in real life. To give it a try though, I started becoming more active in social media, posting in my accounts and being up-to-date with people’s posts. I had a phase like that too when I was much younger, where I also played a lot of online games (like Pet Society and Café City), but I realized it took a lot of my time and not always in a good way. Now after I tried, for a year and successfully at that, I again realize that I still prefer living off the grid and opting for the less public sites that I have like this blog and IG. For me, there is still JOMO rather than FOMO, on the most part. With this, I think I will go back to my norm of not being as present online and that’s all right.
Timeline: [Almost] Daily (yup! #effort)

The Year in Retrospect continued.
Travel within the country at least once:
I have not really travelled much for a couple of reasons but for 2016, I was hoping to travel somewhere, as a sort of break from the daily routine of life. Amazingly so, I had opportunities to go out and about not only through all my hikes but also with trips I had, both personal and professional. As the department attained its goal, we all went to the beach at Batangas for a day away. We rode a banana boat and a flying fish which were pretty fun first for me. My family and I also went to Batangas for an overnight trip, had an indoor pool all to ourselves, caught the sunrise while strolling along the pine tree-filled resort, and had lunch over at Tagaytay to cap it all off. It was really lovely as we don’t often get that chance to go out as a family, given schedules and other reasons.

The Year of Becoming: Exceed, Explore Enrich – my 2016 theme, written on a brown paper bag, with a list of all the things I wanted to accomplish. I wrote about this during the early part of this year, in another post, to share and put into writing what I hope my year will be. They say that it is good to have goals, something to aspire for. Though not all of them may always be met, it gives us direction.
It did give me something to look back on, every now and then, to see if I do get to tick off something from the list. It was never a strict routine, as I still allowed life to happen on its own. I always wondered if I’ll be able to write about the list again but here I am, back in my humble abode. I am back to share my list, and will do so in three parts. Each part will highlight some of those goals and stories on whether I was able to achieve them or not.
So, I begin.

Somewhere off the beaten path, you find bits and pieces of yourself.
As the year comes to an end, which path will you choose to take next?
“Who are you?”
For those wondering who Kai is, who among you has watched the movie Kung Fu Panda 3? If you recall, he is the villain whom Po battles with.
Our Kung Fu Panda Po answers, “I’ve been asking myself the same question… Am I the son of a panda? The son of a goose? A student? A teacher?”
When I heard those lines, I was struck because like Po, I am also… a panda.
Kidding aside, like Po, I too ask myself the same question. Who am I? I believe we all ask ourselves this question, have asked it, and may continuously do so.
As a lot of words and thoughts and rushed into me, I finally settled with three words that I thought would tell a lot about who Mai is a person – Mai is a daydreamer, learner, and lover.

Danke schön. 谢谢. Thank you…
To the team that has taught me a lot.
To the mates who know how to make light of things.
To friends who remain.
To the people who matter most — family.
To life and its heartaches and joys, tears and comfort.
To God who loved me first and loved me best.
Cheers to another year!
