A lot of things have been going through my mind lately, and some songs tell a part of those thoughts.
Ever since I got to watch The Greatest Showman, I’ve been inspired – by the music, the lyrics, the dancing, the singing, the performances, and the lessons I picked up from the story.
While Tightrope is a love song, it is a love song to me that rings true between the Lord and I.
I may have literally tried walking a tightrope in one of my trips in Bohol, a great one to be sure, but life can be as such as well.
Let the lyrics be heard and may it touch the reader’s heart in its own way.

Somewhere off the beaten path, you find bits and pieces of yourself.
As the year comes to an end, which path will you choose to take next?
2 Samuel 7, NIV
God’s Promise to David
7 After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, 2 he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”
3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”

A slice of kiwi. A cup of hot chocolate. A gummy bear. A piece of doughnut or cupcake.
A bright sunny day. A melodic sound. A soft drizzle. A lovely splash of colors.
An encouraging word. A pleasant smile. A kind hand. A soft kiss. A warm hug.
Then & Now
Before the online world, it wasn’t like this. We take photos, have the film developed, and then store them in photo albums. When friends, family, or visitors drop by, we show them the albums and reminisce about those days. There were no concepts of likes and hearts. People just went through the albums, commenting at times and just browsing through others. We just showed our pictures to a limited number of people.
Now in this world of instant everything, we post photos as soon as they are taken, for everyone to see. I guess that’s where people started having issues about how those who project the archetype of the “Online Cool Girl” (or Boy) can be shallow or pretentious because not everybody can maintain that. Reality also means responsibilities, adulting, and not always picture-perfect days. Thus, when others always seem to see a curated gallery of someone, they would either appreciate it or feel a bit inadequate and annoyed at that other or perhaps feel both. Not everybody would admit to the latter though.

The year bids good-bye and the new one has begun to unfold. Another year to make choices. Another year to make mistakes. Another year to grow and learn. Another year to make the most of.
Upon deep contemplation over the year, it became clear that my vision board for 2017 will be about Focus. A lot of things happened over the course of the year, truly enriching my life and person in so many levels. I stretched, bounded, and leaped, all which I believed led me to deciding that it’s now about going back to my center and from there, determine the next steps. We can be distracted by many things and lose sight of what is really important. It is vital that we do not let that happen.

The Year in Retrospect continues, the conclusion.
Be more active in social media:
Some of my friends jokingly call me a #cavewoman for not being present in social media most of the time. Plans are made on our social groups and I am out of the loop, not really minding it, until somebody tells me about it and checking if I can make it. I also miss out on a lot of tagged posts and approve friend requests usually a month or two later. I know it’s a very digital world and I do not disregard that it has its perks, from easier communication to faster access to a lot of things, but I still enjoy living in the real world and talking to people in real life. To give it a try though, I started becoming more active in social media, posting in my accounts and being up-to-date with people’s posts. I had a phase like that too when I was much younger, where I also played a lot of online games (like Pet Society and Café City), but I realized it took a lot of my time and not always in a good way. Now after I tried, for a year and successfully at that, I again realize that I still prefer living off the grid and opting for the less public sites that I have like this blog and IG. For me, there is still JOMO rather than FOMO, on the most part. With this, I think I will go back to my norm of not being as present online and that’s all right.

The Year in Retrospect continued.
Travel within the country at least once:
I have not really travelled much for a couple of reasons but for 2016, I was hoping to travel somewhere, as a sort of break from the daily routine of life. Amazingly so, I had opportunities to go out and about not only through all my hikes but also with trips I had, both personal and professional. As the department attained its goal, we all went to the beach at Batangas for a day away. We rode a banana boat and a flying fish which were pretty fun first for me. My family and I also went to Batangas for an overnight trip, had an indoor pool all to ourselves, caught the sunrise while strolling along the pine tree-filled resort, and had lunch over at Tagaytay to cap it all off. It was really lovely as we don’t often get that chance to go out as a family, given schedules and other reasons.
